Have you ever heard of the word “Ubuntu”? I hadn’t either, until Denisse in our art department brought it to my attention. BTW- Denisse is has an amazing story that I’m sure I will share sometime in a future blog. I’m a big fan of hers and I’m so glad she’s on our PFA communications team!!
Denisse gave me a quick lesson in African culture. She said, like many other collectivist cultures, it takes everyone in the village to raise a child. And while every person has a defined role, the Ubuntu philosophy plays a major role. This African philosophy basically referrers to the idea that no one is an island unto himself/herself.
Human generosity is a big part of this philosophy. The collaboration of everybody working together in different areas for a common purpose is what creates community.
Sounds like what we do here at Phoenix First to connect people. It takes a collective effort of everyone in the PFA family to accomplish the mission we’ve been given. One of our goals is to encourage people to find out what their God-given gifts and talent are, and then to help place them in ministries so they can “blossom” and be who God created them to be. God creates us uniquely to serve others, show the love of Christ and to actually be the “church”…not just attend one.
